Introduction
As the oldest recorded poses (asana) are pictograms from the Indus river valley. Meditative asana comprise a significant amount of the poses available to the contemporary practitioner. However, meditation is much more than just sitting; it is sitting with effort until the effort becomes effortless. Most of these asana are considered advanced, not necessarily because they are difficult to achieve, but because they are difficult to sustain. In this advanced workshop, participants will learn how to train for meditative practices through strategies that promote circulation and provide points of concentration. Success in achieving a meditative or reflective state is greatly improved when full consideration is attended to in the preparation, execution, and exit from poses. In this tutorial, we will review standing and seated poses, as well as, discuss a few points of focus.
